From the standpoint of an educator, I value inclusivity inside and outside the class. I think that it’s valuable for every environment to be inclusive that way were are not pushing people to the side, rather we are welcoming them in to share with us. As an educator, I also value, the idea of being heard. With me currently being a student being heard just means that someone values my opinion on the things that affect me. I believe that as an educator it’s important to listen to your students so that you can gain insight into what they are thinking and how they feel. I think that dance is a great way for means of learning, expression, communication, disciple, and exercise. It’s why I believe people should learn dance because it allows them to explore many things within dance. I know when some people think of dance they think of ballet but, ballet is not the basis for all dance forms. Dance has so many cultural facets within its roots, that it’s sad to say over time that its history has been whitewashed. I believe that dance opens up the door to learning something new and can be the starting point for someone diving deeper into the history of dance.
My approach to teaching is that I try to make sure that my students understand the content that is being taught. I also try to approach class in a way that the students also can learn from each other through peer/reciprocal teaching. I believe that the students learning from each other, allows them to hone their observation skills. I think that I intersect my values of inclusivity within the classroom by giving students options to choose from so they can take some reigns on their learning. This allows students to determine what is right for them and what they could possibly do to try harder options.
